Car
If you're driving, head towards Funchal. From the center of Funchal, follow the signs toward the Estrada Monumental (the main road along the coast). Continue on this road until you reach a roundabout near the entrance to the Botanical Garden. Take the exit for 'Jardim Botânico' and follow the road uphill. The Botanical Garden is located at the address 9060-345 Funchal. There is parking available on-site, typically costing around €2 for the day.
Public Bus
To reach the Botanical Garden using public transportation, take the bus line 31 from the city center (stop near Avenida Arriaga). The bus ride takes approximately 20 minutes. Make sure to ask the driver to stop at 'Jardim Botânico'. The bus fare is around €1.80. After disembarking, follow the signs to the garden entrance, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
Cable Car
For a scenic route, consider taking the Funchal cable car from the city center to Monte. After reaching Monte, you can either walk to the Botanical Garden (approximately 15-20 minutes downhill) or take a quick taxi ride. The cable car ticket costs around €12 for a round trip. From Monte, the garden is well-signposted, and the walk offers beautiful views of the surroundings.
