If you are in the center of Guimarães, start at Praça de Santiago, a well-known square. Head east on Rua de Santiago, then turn left onto Rua da Rainha, which will lead you to the bus station. From there, take bus number 50 towards Porto. The bus ride will take around 30 minutes. Get off at the stop 'Ponte de São João.' After getting off, walk towards the bridge which is visible from the bus stop. The Ponte de São João is a beautiful bridge that crosses the Douro River and is worth the visit.

From Guimarães, take a train from Guimarães train station to Porto. The journey lasts about 1 hour. Once you arrive at São Bento train station in Porto, exit the station and walk towards the Avenida dos Aliados. From there, you can either take a bus (lines 201 or 207) or walk towards the Douro River. If you choose to walk, continue straight until you reach the riverbank, then turn left to find Ponte de São João. It’s approximately a 20-minute walk from there.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in Guimarães. Start from the city center and head towards the Douro River, following the bike lanes that lead east. It’s about a 15 km ride to reach Porto, so anticipate a journey of approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Porto, follow the signs towards the river, and you'll see the Ponte de São João as you approach the waterfront.
