Train
From Sintra, walk to the Sintra train station, which is located near the city center. Take the train towards Cascais and get off at the Setúbal station. From there, transfer to the local bus service (Bus number 13 or 14) that will take you directly to Palmela. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Palmela, follow the signs to the Palmela's Castle, which is located on a hill. It’s a short walk from the bus stop.
Bus
From the Sintra city center, head to the Bus Terminal located near the train station. Take the bus line 403 towards Setúbal. The journey will take approximately 40 minutes. When you arrive at the Palmela bus stop, exit the bus and follow the signs leading to Palmela's Castle. It is a 15-minute uphill walk from the bus stop to the castle.
Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and wish to explore, you can walk to Palmela from Sintra, although it is a significant distance of about 12 kilometers. Start by heading south from the Sintra center, following the road signs towards Palmela. The route takes you through beautiful countryside and vineyards. It will take around 2.5 to 3 hours of walking, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
