If you are starting from the Viana do Castelo train station, exit the station and head towards the main road, Avenida de Cabo Verde. Turn right and continue walking until you reach the intersection with Rua da Bandeira. Turn left onto Rua da Bandeira. This street will lead you directly into the city center. Continue straight for about 10 minutes until you arrive at Praça da República, which will be on your right.

From the Viana do Castelo bus station, exit and turn left onto Rua da Liberdade. Follow this road until you reach the fork where you will take the right path onto Rua de São Pedro. Continue straight along Rua de São Pedro, which will eventually turn into Rua da Bandeira. Continue along this street until you see Praça da República on your left after approximately 15 minutes.
