From the center of Vila Real, head north on Rua de Trás de Cima towards Avenida 25 de Abril. Continue straight for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Avenida 10 de Junho. Turn left onto Avenida 10 de Junho and continue straight for approximately 1 kilometer. You will see a sign for Casa de Mateus on your right. Follow the signs, and after a short walk of about 200 meters, you will arrive at Casa de Mateus.

From the central bus station in Vila Real, take the bus to Mateus which is often labeled as 'Casa de Mateus' on the route. Buses run approximately every hour. The journey takes about 15 minutes. Once you arrive at the Casa de Mateus bus stop, the entrance to the estate is just a short walk from the bus stop, approximately 200 meters away.

If you prefer to bike, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Vila Real. Start by heading north on Rua de Trás de Cima, then take a left onto Avenida 25 de Abril. Follow this road until you reach Avenida 10 de Junho, where you will turn left. Continue for about 1 kilometer until you see the Casa de Mateus sign on your right. The bike ride takes around 10-15 minutes depending on your speed.
