Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, start from any point within Narragansett Bay and head towards Block Island. Use Route 1 South to reach the Block Island Ferry terminal located at 1 Ferry Road, Galilee, RI 02802. The ferry operates regularly, but it's wise to check the schedule at the Block Island Ferry website (www.blockislandferry.com) for current times. The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes, and round-trip tickets typically cost around $20 for adults. Once you arrive at Block Island, follow the signs to Mohegan Trail. The bluffs are located approximately 2.5 miles from the ferry terminal. You can either walk (about a 40-minute walk) or take a taxi or bicycle rental available at the terminal.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus or shuttle service to the Block Island Ferry terminal in Galilee. From Providence, RI, you can take the RIPTA bus #14 towards Point Judith, which will drop you off near the ferry terminal. Once you arrive at Block Island, follow the same directions as above: walk, taxi, or rent a bike to reach Mohegan Bluffs. Be sure to check the RIPTA website (www.ripta.com) for bus schedules and fares.
Walking/Biking
Once you arrive on Block Island via the ferry, you have the option to walk or bike to Mohegan Bluffs. The route will take you along Mohegan Trail, offering beautiful views of the island. It's about a 2.5-mile trek, which should take roughly 40 minutes to walk or about 15 minutes by bike. If you're biking, bike rentals are available at the ferry terminal, typically costing around $15-$25 for a few hours.
