Public Transport - Bus
To reach Newport from Narragansett, start by walking to the nearest bus stop on Route 1, which is the main highway connecting various towns. Look for the RIPTA bus service (Rhode Island Public Transit Authority) that stops at the Narragansett Town Beach. Take the bus number 14 towards Newport. The bus ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Make sure to get off at the Newport Visitor Center, which is a central location to start exploring Newport.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a more active method of transportation, consider renting a bicycle. Local shops, such as Narragansett Bike Shop, offer rentals. From the shop, head north on Ocean Road until you reach the entrance to the South County Bike Path. Follow the bike path west, which eventually leads you towards Newport. This route is scenic and will take around 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on your pace. Make sure to follow the path signs to stay on track.
Walking
For those who enjoy walking, you can take a stroll towards Newport. Start at the Narragansett Town Beach and follow Ocean Road north. This will eventually turn into Memorial Boulevard as you enter Newport. The walk is about 10 miles and will take approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
