Getting There

Car
From any point within Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, head northwest on Trustom Pond Road. Continue for about 1.5 miles until you reach the junction with Route 1. At the junction, turn left onto Route 1 South. Follow Route 1 for approximately 2 miles. Take the exit for Route 138 East toward Jamestown. Merge onto Route 138 and continue for about 5 miles. You will pass through scenic areas. As you approach Saunderstown, follow the signs for John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge. The entrance will be on your right directly off of Route 138, where you will see the signage for the refuge.

Public Transportation
If you are traveling by public transportation, start by taking a bus from Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge to the nearest transit hub in Wakefield. From Wakefield, you can catch a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus heading toward South Kingstown or Saunderstown. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance. Once in Saunderstown, you will need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge at Pettaquamscutt Cove. Keep an eye out for local signage to guide you along the way.
