Brenton Point State Park: A Coastal Gem in Newport

Getting There

• Public Bus

  From your location in Westerly, walk to the nearest bus stop on Main Street. Take the RIPTA Route 67 bus towards Newport. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the Newport Gateway Center. From there, transfer to the RIPTA Route 60 bus towards Ocean Drive. Get off at the stop closest to Brenton Point State Park. The park entrance will be a short walk from the bus stop.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from a local rental shop in Westerly. Start your ride on Route 1 North towards Newport. Follow the bike lanes and signs for approximately 12 miles until you reach Ocean Drive in Newport. Once you arrive, continue along Ocean Drive until you see the entrance to Brenton Point State Park on your right.

• Walking

  For an adventurous walk, start at the Westerly Town Hall and head south on High Street until you reach Main Street. Turn left on Main Street and walk until you reach the RIPTA bus station, where you can catch the bus to Newport as mentioned above. Alternatively, if you prefer to walk directly to Newport, follow the scenic route along the shoreline, which is approximately 12 miles and will take about 4-5 hours. Make sure to stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  You can easily request a taxi or rideshare service, such as Uber or Lyft, from anywhere in Westerly. Simply input 'Brenton Point State Park, Ocean Drive, Newport, RI' as your destination. The ride will take about 25-30 minutes depending on traffic, and it will drop you off right at the entrance to the park.
