Getting There

Car
Starting from the center of Pitești, head south on DN65 towards the A1 highway. Merge onto A1 towards Sibiu. After approximately 55 km, take exit 30 for DN7C towards Curtea de Argeș. Continue on DN7C for about 35 km until you reach Arefu. Upon reaching Arefu, follow the signs for Poenari Citadel. The citadel is located on Transfăgărășan road. There is a parking area available near the entrance, where you can park your car for a small fee (around 10 RON).

Public Transportation
From Pitești, take a train from Pitești Station to Curtea de Argeș. Trains run frequently, and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Curtea de Argeș, you can take a local bus or arrange a taxi to Arefu. The bus to Arefu departs from the same bus station and costs approximately 5 RON. Upon arrival in Arefu, follow the signs to Poenari Citadel, which is a 30-minute walk uphill from the bus drop-off point.
