Absolutely Incredible Tour

In September of 2026 we travelled from Canada to do a road trip of Romania. We had planned on stopping into Bistrita and had booked this tour in advance with Dragos. We also arranged for him to give us an extended tour that included some of the other little towns in the area. He also arranged a tour of the Saxon Museum in Livezile, which to be honest has a lot higher quality and more interesting Saxon artifacts in it than any of the other places we visited in the country. It was impressive. We only speak English, but Dragos was happy to translate the information that the Museums caretaker, Gordon, was telling us. Overall, this tour was actually the highlight of our trip to Romania. Bistrita is a little bit off the beaten path, but it's a beautiful old Saxon town with a ton of history, charm, and without the feeling of being stuck in a tourist trap like Brashov or Sighisora. The old Saxon Church and the history of it that Dragos explained was also more interesting than the other churches we visited in the country. I'd highly highly recommend anyone visiting Romania to stop into Bistrita. It's one of the Seven main Saxon towns and because of being slightly out of the way, you're going to get a much more genuine experience out of it. I would also highly highly recommend booking a guided tour of the city or try to customize a tour of the area with Dragos, as you'll get so much more information about the area verses just walking around and looking at things yourself.
