Experience Gorge of Varghis

Getting There

  • Car

    From Harghita, take the DN12 road towards Gheorgheni. Continue on DN12 for about 30 km until you reach the town of Tușnad. Once in Tușnad, follow the signs for Varghis Gorge and take the DJ123 road. After approximately 10 km, you will arrive at the entrance to the Gorge of Varghis. Parking is available nearby. Expect to pay a small parking fee, usually around 5 RON.

  • Public Transportation

    From Harghita, take a bus to Gheorgheni. Buses run regularly and the journey takes about 45 minutes. Once in Gheorgheni, transfer to a bus heading towards Tușnad. After arriving in Tușnad, you will need to take a local taxi or arrange for a ride to the Gorge of Varghis, as public transport may not directly reach the gorge. Taxi fares can vary, but expect to pay around 30-40 RON for the trip.

  • Walking

    If you are already in Tușnad and prefer walking, from the town center, head towards the DJ123 road. Follow this road for approximately 10 km until you reach the Gorge of Varghis. Be prepared for a scenic but hilly walk, which may take about 2-3 hours depending on your pace.
