Car
If you are traveling by car, you can reach the Rodna Mountains from the nearest city, Bistrita. From Bistrita, take the DN17 road towards Vatra Dornei. After approximately 40 km, you will reach the town of Năsăud. Continue on DN17 for about 15 km until you see signs for the Rodna Mountains National Park. Follow the signs toward the park entrance, which is well-marked. Note that parking might incur a small fee, typically around 10 RON.
Public Transportation
To reach the Rodna Mountains via public transport, start from Bistrita. Take a bus from Bistrita's central bus station to Năsăud. Buses run frequently, and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Once in Năsăud, transfer to a local bus that heads towards the Rodna Mountains. Make sure to ask the bus driver to drop you off at the closest stop to the park entrance. The bus fare should be around 10-15 RON for the entire trip.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity of the Rodna Mountains and wish to hike, there are several well-marked trails. For instance, from the village of Rodna, you can start your hike by following the blue rectangle trail, which leads directly into the mountains. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and a map of the trails available at local tourist information centers.
Taxi
For a more direct route, consider taking a taxi from Bistrita to the Rodna Mountains. This option is more expensive, generally costing around 150-200 RON, but it offers convenience. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand or use a ride-hailing app if available.
