Getting there

Car

If you're traveling by car, start from Zalău, the capital of Sălaj. Head northwest on DN1H, towards the town of Șimleu Silvaniei. Continue on DN1H for about 20 kilometers. After reaching Șimleu Silvaniei, turn left onto DJ109C and follow the signs for Peștera Bătrânului. The cave is located approximately 10 kilometers from the turnoff. You can park in the designated area near the entrance to the cave.

Public Transportation

To reach Peștera Bătrânului using public transportation, take a bus from Zalău to Șimleu Silvaniei. Buses regularly depart from the Zalău bus station. The trip takes about 30 minutes. Once in Șimleu Silvaniei, you will need to take a taxi to reach the cave, as public transport options are limited. Confirm the taxi fare beforehand, as it may vary depending on the driver, but expect to pay around 30-50 RON for the trip to Peștera Bătrânului.

Walking

If you prefer a more adventurous route, and if you're staying in nearby villages, consider walking to Peștera Bătrânului from the nearest village. For example, from the village of Hășmaș, it is about a 5-kilometer hike to the cave. Follow the marked trails through the forest, and enjoy the scenic views along the way.
