    If you are driving from the city of Râmnicu Vâlcea, head north on DN7 (E81) towards Curtea de Argeș. Continue for approximately 52 km until you reach the town of Arefu. Once in Arefu, follow the signs for the Transfăgărășan highway (DN7C) and drive approximately 10 km until you see the signs for Poenari Citadel. There is a parking area near the citadel entrance, but be aware that it can fill up quickly during peak tourist seasons.

    To reach Poenari Citadel via public transport, take a bus from Râmnicu Vâlcea to Curtea de Argeș. Buses are available throughout the day, and the journey takes about 1 hour. Upon arrival in Curtea de Argeș, transfer to a local bus heading to Arefu. Once you arrive in Arefu, you will need to walk or take a taxi for the remaining distance to the citadel. The total cost for the bus journey should be approximately 20-25 RON.
