Once in Arefu, follow the signs for the Transfăgărășan highway (DN7C) and drive approximately 10 km until you see the signs for Poenari Citadel. There is a parking area near the citadel entrance, but be aware that it can fill up quickly during peak tourist seasons.
Public Transportation

To reach Poenari Citadel via public transport, take a bus from Râmnicu Vâlcea to Curtea de Argeș. Buses are available throughout the day, and the journey takes about 1 hour. Upon arrival in Curtea de Argeș, transfer to a local bus heading to Arefu. Once you arrive in Arefu, you will need to walk or take a taxi for the remaining distance to the citadel. The total cost for the bus journey should be approximately 20-25 RON.
