Getting There

• Walking

  Starting from the center of Butare, head north on Avenue de la Révolution towards Avenue du Général. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Avenue de la Paix. Turn left onto Avenue de la Paix and continue walking for about 15-20 minutes. You will pass various shops and local eateries along the way. Once you reach the roundabout, take the second exit onto Avenue de l'Indépendance. Keep walking straight until you reach the main road leading out of Butare city. Follow the road, and after approximately 30-40 minutes, you will see the sign for Kibagabaga Genocide Memorial on your right. The memorial is located at 3489+3R6, Kigali, approximately 3 kilometers from the city center.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Butare. Start from the city center and head north along Avenue de la Révolution. Turn left onto Avenue de la Paix and continue cycling for about 15-20 minutes. You will cycle past shops and local landmarks. When you reach the roundabout, take the second exit onto Avenue de l'Indépendance. Continue on this road for another 30 minutes. As you get closer to the memorial, look for signs indicating Kibagabaga Genocide Memorial, which will be on your right. The entire journey should take you around 1 hour, depending on your pace.

• Public Transport

  To reach Kibagabaga Genocide Memorial using public transport, start at the main bus terminal in Butare. Look for a bus heading towards Kigali, as they often stop near the memorial. Once on the bus, ask the conductor to notify you when you reach Kibagabaga. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes.
