Walking
Start from the center of Butare, near the National Museum of Rwanda. Head east on Avenue du 1er Novembre until you reach the intersection with Avenue de l'Indépendance. Turn left onto Avenue de l'Indépendance and walk for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the roundabout. From the roundabout, take the exit onto the road towards Kayumba. Continue walking straight for approximately 2 kilometers. You'll pass several local shops and small restaurants. As you approach the outskirts of Butare, look for signs directing you toward Ntarama. The memorial will be on your right, just off the main road. The total walking distance is about 3.5 kilometers and should take you roughly 45 minutes.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local shops in Butare. Start from the National Museum of Rwanda and head east on Avenue du 1er Novembre. Turn left at the intersection with Avenue de l'Indépendance. Continue on this road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the exit toward Kayumba and continue for another 2 kilometers. Be aware of the traffic as you ride, and watch for signs pointing to Ntarama. The memorial will be situated on your right side. The bike ride will take about 15-20 minutes, depending on your speed.
Public Transport
To reach Ntarama Genocide Memorial by public transport, head to the local bus station in Butare, which is located near the National Museum of Rwanda. Look for a bus heading towards Kayumba. Once on the bus, inform the driver that you want to stop at the Ntarama Genocide Memorial. The journey will take approximately 20-30 minutes. After you disembark, the memorial should be a short walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs to the memorial, which will be a short distance away from the main road.
