If you're driving from the town of Kayonza, head southeast on the RN3 road. Continue for about 30 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Rwata. Turn right onto the dirt road and follow the signs towards Rwata Wetland. The drive should take approximately 45 minutes, depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for dirt roads.
Public Transportation
To reach Rwata by public transportation, take a bus or shared taxi from Kayonza to Kabarondo. Once you arrive in Kabarondo, look for a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi) or ask locals for directions to Rwata Wetland. The moto-taxi ride will take about 15-20 minutes and typically costs around 1,000 Rwandan Francs. Confirm the price before starting your journey.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and are already in the vicinity of Rwata, you can walk from the nearest town, Kabarondo. It’s a scenic walk of about 5 kilometers that will take you approximately 1.5 hours. Follow the dirt paths towards the wetland area, enjoying the local scenery along the way.
