Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From the center of Ruhengeri, head to the main bus station, known as 'Gare Routière de Ruhengeri.' Look for buses heading towards Kisoro, Uganda. Make sure to confirm that the bus stops at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or at the nearest town, Kisoro. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Upon arrival at Kisoro, you can hire a local moto-taxi or walk to the park entrance.

  • Moto-Taxi

    If you prefer a quicker option or are unable to find a bus, consider taking a moto-taxi from Ruhengeri directly to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. You can find moto-taxis near the main square or ask your hotel for assistance in calling one. The ride takes about 1.5 hours, and be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand.

  • Walking to Kisoro

    If you're adventurous and in good shape, you can walk from Ruhengeri to Kisoro, which is approximately 30 kilometers (around 18.6 miles).
