Walking
From the center of Ruhengeri, start at the main bus station (Gare Routière de Ruhengeri). Head southeast on Avenue de la Révolution. Walk straight for about 1 km until you reach the intersection with Avenue du 1er Novembre. Turn left onto Avenue du 1er Novembre and continue walking for another 2 km. You will pass local shops and cafes along the way. After 2 km, you will reach a roundabout. Take the second exit to continue on Avenue du 1er Novembre, heading northeast. After approximately 1.5 km, you will see signs for Lake Burera. Follow the signs, which will direct you along a smaller road leading to the lake. The walk will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace.

Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Ruhengeri. Begin your journey at the main bus station (Gare Routière de Ruhengeri). Cycle southeast on Avenue de la Révolution for about 1 km until you reach the intersection with Avenue du 1er Novembre. Turn left onto Avenue du 1er Novembre and cycle for about 2 km. You will pass various local attractions and shops. At the roundabout, take the second exit to stay on Avenue du 1er Novembre heading northeast. Continue for another 1.5 km, following the signs to Lake Burera. The bike ride will take around 30 to 45 minutes. Be cautious of traffic and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Moto-taxi
To hire a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi), you can find them near the main bus station (Gare Routière de Ruhengeri). Once you confirm your destination as Lake Burera, negotiate the fare with the driver. The ride will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes. The driver will take you along Avenue du 1er Novembre, passing through local neighborhoods and scenic areas. Make sure to wear a helmet provided by the driver for safety.

From the main bus station (Gare Routière de Ruhengeri), look for a minibus heading towards the direction of Byumba or Musanze. Board the minibus and inform the driver that you want to get off at the nearest stop to Lake Burera. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes.
