Car
If you are traveling by car within Volcanoes National Park, make your way to the main entrance of the park, which is located at Kinigi. From the entrance, follow the signs to the Gahinga Trailhead. The road is well-maintained and should take approximately 30 minutes from Kinigi. You will need to pay an entrance fee to the park, which is about $60 per person for foreign visitors. Once you reach the area around HMG3+C66, Colline Gatete, you will find signs directing you to the Gahinga Trailhead.
Public Transportation
To reach Gahinga Trailhead using public transportation, take a bus from Kigali to Musanze (approximately 2 hours). Upon arrival in Musanze, you can hire a motorcycle taxi (commonly known as 'moto') to take you to the park entrance at Kinigi. The moto ride will take about 30 minutes and cost roughly $10. Once at the park entrance, you will need to pay the entrance fee (around $60 for foreign visitors) and then follow the signs to the Gahinga Trailhead located at HMG3+C66, Colline Gatete.
Guided Tour
Consider joining a guided tour that includes transportation to the Gahinga Trailhead. Many tour companies in Kigali or Musanze offer packages that include a driver and guide.
