Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Micoud Quarter. Head south on the main road (the Micoud Highway) towards the town of Micoud. After passing through the town, continue driving for approximately 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with the road leading to the village of Fond St. Jacques. Turn left onto the Fond St. Jacques road and follow it for about 15 minutes. As you approach the area, look for signs that indicate the trailhead to Mt Gimie. Parking is available at the trailhead, but be aware that there may be a small fee (approximately $5 USD) for vehicle access.
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, take a minibus from Micoud Quarter to the town of Micoud. Buses frequently depart and the fare is around $1 USD. Once in Micoud, you will need to catch another minibus heading towards Fond St. Jacques. Confirm with the driver that they will take you to the Mt Gimie trailhead. The fare for this leg of the trip is also approximately $1 USD. After arriving at the Fond St. Jacques stop, you may need to walk a short distance to reach the trailhead, which should be clearly marked. Remember to check the schedule for the last bus returning to Micoud Quarter.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the trailhead, prepare for a hike. The path to the summit of Mt Gimie is a well-marked trail but can be steep and challenging. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and carry sufficient water and snacks. The hike can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on your fitness level. Always inform someone about your hiking plans and estimated return time for safety.
