Car
From Matam, drive south on the N2 highway towards Bakel. Continue on the N2 for approximately 160 kilometers until you reach the junction for the town of Ziguinchor. Follow the signs to Ziguinchor, and then take the road towards Kolda. After about 20 kilometers, you will reach the town of Kolda. From Kolda, continue heading south until you reach the coastal town of Elinkine. There, you will find a ferry terminal where you can catch a ferry to Carabane Island. The ferry ride takes about 30 minutes and typically costs around 1,500 CFA (approximately $2.50). Make sure to check the ferry schedule in advance.

Start your journey at the Matam bus station. Look for a 'car rapide' (a shared taxi) heading towards Ziguinchor. The fare is approximately 5,000 CFA (around $8.50) and the trip takes about 4-5 hours. Once you arrive in Ziguinchor, you will need to transfer to a local 'car rapide' or taxi to Elinkine, which costs about 1,500 CFA (approximately $2.50) and takes another 30 minutes. Upon reaching Elinkine, proceed to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry to Carabane Island, which costs about 1,500 CFA (around $2.50) and takes approximately 30 minutes.
