Getting There

    From the center of Port Loko, head towards the main road leading out of town. Walk along the main street until you reach the junction with the road to Freetown. Continue walking straight for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach the Port Loko ferry terminal. Here, you will need to take a ferry across the river. The ferry operates regularly, and you can buy a ticket at the terminal. After crossing the river, follow the signs towards Freetown and walk along the coastal road for about 5 kilometers. You will see signs for the Sierra Leone River Estuary (SLRE RAMSAR Site) on your left.

  • Bicycle

    Start at the Port Loko market area and head south towards the main road. Take the main road heading towards Freetown, which is approximately 1.5 kilometers away. Once you reach the Port Loko ferry terminal, park your bicycle and take the ferry across the river. After disembarking, follow the coastal road heading towards Freetown for about 5 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating the Sierra Leone River Estuary (SLRE RAMSAR Site), which will be on your left side.

  • Motorbike Taxi

    From any location in Port Loko, find a motorbike taxi (locally known as 'okada'). Inform the driver that you want to go to the Port Loko ferry terminal. The ride should take about 5-10 minutes. Once at the ferry terminal, pay for your ferry ticket and cross the river. After you arrive on the other side, ask the motorbike taxi to take you to the Sierra Leone River Estuary (SLRE RAMSAR Site). The ride from the ferry terminal to the site should take approximately 10-15 minutes.
