From Port Loko, take a motorbike taxi (locally known as 'okada') to the nearest bus station. Inform the driver that you want to go to Freetown. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the bus station in Freetown, look for a bus or shared taxi heading towards the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located near the outskirts of Freetown, and the bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of the sanctuary.

Walking
If you find yourself near the Freetown city center, you can walk to the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Start from the central market and head south towards the main road. Continue walking on this road for about 2 kilometers until you reach the junction that leads to the sanctuary. Follow the signs to Tacugama, which is around 7 kilometers from the junction. This walk will take you roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.

From Port Loko, take an okada to the Freetown bus station. Once in Freetown, take a shared taxi to the nearest point to the sanctuary. After getting off, you may need to walk approximately 1-2 kilometers uphill to reach the sanctuary entrance. Always confirm with locals or the driver that you are on the right path to Tacugama.
