Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Cape Sierra Leone.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
Starting from the capital city, Freetown, head southeast on Kissy Road towards the Peninsula. Continue straight until you reach the junction at the entrance of the Peninsula, where you'll need to pay a small toll fee (approximately 5000 Leones). After passing the toll booth, follow the signs for the Peninsula Road, which will lead you towards the coastline. Drive along the scenic route, keeping the ocean on your left. As you approach the Cape Sierra Leone area, look for signs indicating the direction to Cape Sierra Leone, which is located at latitude 8.4986111 and longitude -13.2972222. You might need to navigate through a few local roads, so use a GPS or maps application for the most accurate directions.
Public Transportation
From Freetown, head to the main bus station and look for shared taxis or buses heading towards the Peninsula. Inform the driver that your destination is Cape Sierra Leone. The fare will vary but expect to pay around 10,000-15,000 Leones. The journey may take around 1-2 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the main drop-off point in the Peninsula area, you may need to hire a local taxi or motorbike to take you directly to Cape Sierra Leone, as it can be located on less accessible roads. Negotiate the fare beforehand, which should be around 20,000 Leones.
Motorbike Taxi
If you prefer a quicker means of getting around once you are in the Peninsula, consider using a motorbike taxi (locally known as 'okada'). After reaching the Peninsula area by shared taxi or bus, you can easily find motorbike taxi drivers who can take you to Cape Sierra Leone. The fare for a motorbike taxi should be around 10,000 Leones. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow safety precautions during your ride.
