Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Poprad, which is a common entry point to the High Tatras. From Poprad, take the road E50 towards Vysoké Tatry. Continue on E50 for approximately 14 kilometers until you reach the town of Tatranská Lomnica. From Tatranská Lomnica, follow the signs for the Tatra National Park. There is a parking area near the entrance to the park, which typically costs around €5 per day. After parking, take the marked hiking trail towards Great Cold Valley, which will lead you through stunning landscapes.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, take a train from Poprad to Tatranská Lomnica. Trains run regularly and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Tatranská Lomnica, you can either walk to the Tatra National Park entrance (approximately a 15-minute walk) or take a local bus that runs to the park. The bus fare is usually around €1. After reaching the park entrance, follow the designated hiking trails towards Great Cold Valley. Ensure to check the local bus and train schedules for return trips.
Hiking
Once you are at the entrance of Tatra National Park, grab a trail map from the information center (free of charge). The trail to Great Cold Valley is well-marked and moderate in difficulty, taking around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the valley from the entrance. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water and snacks. The scenery is breathtaking, so take your time to enjoy the views along the way.
