Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Trenčín. Head southeast on Mierové námestie toward Karpaty. Continue onto Žilinská Cesta (E572) and follow signs for the E50 highway. Take the exit for Trenčín/Zlatovce and merge onto the D1 highway. After about 10 km, take exit 27 toward Trenčianska Teplá. Follow the signs for Velká Skalka. The monastery is located approximately 15 km from the exit. There is a parking area near the monastery. Please note that there may be a small fee for parking, typically around €1-2 for the day.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the Jesuit monastery Velka Skalka using public transportation, start at Trenčín train station. Take a train to Trenčianska Teplá, which is a short ride of about 10 minutes. Upon arrival at Trenčianska Teplá, exit the train station and look for local bus services. There are buses that run towards the Velká Skalka area. Make sure to check the local bus schedules as they may vary. The bus ride will take around 20-30 minutes. Once you reach the nearest bus stop, you will need to walk approximately 1 km to the monastery. Be prepared for a short hike, as the path to the monastery may be steep in places. A ticket for the train will cost around €1-2, and the bus fare is approximately €1.

• Bicycle

  For an adventurous route, consider cycling to the Jesuit monastery Velka Skalka. From Trenčín, take the bike path leading southeast out of the city, following the riverbank. As you approach Trenčianska Teplá, join the road signs directing you toward Velká Skalka. The ride is about 15 km and can take 1-2 hours depending on your cycling speed. This route offers beautiful scenery, but be cautious of traffic on the road. Make sure your bike is well-prepared and bring water for the journey.
