Getting There

  • Bus

    From the center of Nova Gorica, head to the main bus station, which is located on Ulica Tolminskih Puntarjev. Look for buses heading to Trieste. You can take bus number 28 or 29, which runs frequently. Purchase your ticket at the station or on the bus. The journey will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Trieste bus station (Stazione dei Bus), you will need to transfer to a local bus. Look for bus number 40 towards 'San Dorligo della Valle'. This bus will take you to the vicinity of Val Rosandra Nature Reserve. Get off at the 'Val Rosandra' stop, which is close to the entrance of the reserve.

  • Train and Bus

    Start at the Nova Gorica train station located on Kolodvorska cesta. Take a train to Trieste Centrale, which is a direct route and takes about 35 minutes. Once you arrive at Trieste Centrale, exit the train station and walk to the nearby bus stop. Look for bus number 40 towards 'San Dorligo della Valle'. Get on the bus and ride for approximately 20 minutes until you reach the 'Val Rosandra' stop, which is near the entrance of the nature reserve.

  • Walking

    If you enjoy walking and are up for a longer trek, you can walk from Nova Gorica to the Val Rosandra Nature Reserve. Start at the main square in Nova Gorica (Trg Edvarda Kardelja) and head east towards the border with Italy. Cross the border and continue walking along Via Nazionale. You will eventually reach the outskirts of San Dorligo della Valle. Follow signs for Val Rosandra Nature Reserve, which is roughly a 3 to 4-hour walk, depending on your pace.
