Mount Saint Mary: A Serene Escape in the Heart of Slovenia

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from the center of Savinja, head south on the main road towards Ljubljana. Follow the signs for 'Šmartno' and 'Mount Saint Mary'. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will reach the town of Šmartno. From there, look for signs directing you to Mount Saint Mary, which is located to the northeast of the town. You may need to park at a designated parking area near the base of the mountain, where you can find a trailhead leading to the summit.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Mount Saint Mary by public transport, start by taking a local bus from Savinja to Ljubljana. Once in Ljubljana, transfer to a bus heading towards Šmartno. The bus ride will take about 30-40 minutes. After arriving in Šmartno, you can either walk to the base of Mount Saint Mary, which is about a 30-minute walk from the bus station, or you can check for any available taxis that can take you closer to the trailhead.

• Walking

  If you prefer to hike to Mount Saint Mary from Šmartno, exit the bus at the Šmartno bus station and head northeast along the main road. Look for signs indicating the trail to Mount Saint Mary. The hike itself is relatively moderate and provides beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Ensure you wear appropriate hiking footwear and carry water for the journey.
