Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands. Drive south to the Isabel Province, following the signs for Gizo. Once in Isabel, navigate to the town of Buala. Here, you can find a local boat service that operates trips to Obelisk Island. The drive from Honiara to Buala takes approximately 4-5 hours depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as there are limited service stations along the route.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, take a bus from Honiara to Buala, which typically departs several times a day. The bus journey can take around 6-7 hours. Upon arriving in Buala, you can hire a local boat to take you to Obelisk Island. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance as it can vary. The cost for the bus fare is generally around 100-150 SBD. The boat ride to the island may cost an additional 200-300 SBD.
Boat
Once you reach Buala, look for a local boat service or inquire with the locals for available trips to Obelisk Island. Boats typically leave from the main dock in Buala and the journey takes roughly 30-45 minutes. It's advisable to negotiate the price beforehand and confirm the return schedule with the boat operator.
