Travel Guide to Silvermine Reservoir

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, begin your journey from Cape Town Central. Head south on the M3 highway towards Muizenberg. Continue on the M3 until you reach the exit for the M42 (Main Road). Take the exit and turn left onto Main Road (M42). Follow Main Road to the traffic lights at the intersection with Steenberg Road. Turn right onto Steenberg Road, which leads into the Silvermine Nature Reserve. After approximately 5 km, look for the entrance to Silvermine Nature Reserve on your left. There is an entrance fee of around R40 per vehicle (as of the latest information) to access the park. Once inside, follow the signs to Silvermine Reservoir.

• Public Transport

  For those relying on public transportation, start at the Cape Town Civic Centre and catch the MyCiTi bus (Route 2 or 5) to Muizenberg. This bus runs frequently, so check the MyCiTi schedule for exact times. Once in Muizenberg, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare to Silvermine Nature Reserve, as public transport does not directly reach the reservoir. The taxi ride will take about 10-15 minutes and should cost around R100-R150. Be sure to agree on a fare before starting your ride. Upon arrival at Silvermine Nature Reserve, pay the entrance fee of approximately R40 per vehicle.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, cycling to Silvermine Reservoir is a great option. Start from the Cape Town Central, and head south towards Muizenberg, using the scenic beachfront cycle paths. Once you reach Muizenberg, follow the same route as for cars via Steenberg Road towards Silvermine Nature Reserve. The cycling route is around 25 km one way and can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have a helmet and check for bike rental options in Cape Town if you do not have your own bicycle. Remember to pay the entrance fee of around R40 once you reach the reserve.
