Full Day Soweto, Johannesburg and Apartheid Museum Guided Tour

Fantastic day in Johannesburg

Our guide Vuyo picked us up from the hotel. First stop Constitution Hill, where the Constitutional Court has been built on the site of the former Fort and prison. No.4, the prison where political prisoners were held during apartheid, is a sobering place. Prisoners lived in crowded, unsanitary conditions and were treated terribly with regular beatings and solitary confinement. A big surprise was that both Gandhi and Mandela were imprisoned here, at very different times. We then visited the Anti-Apartheid Museum where we could have spent a whole day. Then on to Soweto and a visit to Archbishop Tutu and Mr Mandela’s houses in Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners lived! Vuyo then took us on a drive around the township and to the memorial for the children killed in June 1976 while protesting for equal education. An amazing day, thanks to our extremely knowledgeable guide Vuyo. highly recommend this tour as a great way to see Johannesburg.
