Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to the Senqu viewpoint, start from the Sani Pass Hotel. Head east on the R56 towards the Sani Pass. Continue on this road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the entrance to Sani Pass. Note that a vehicle permit is required to drive through Sani Pass, which can be obtained at the hotel or local shops. The road is steep and may be challenging, so ensure that your vehicle is equipped for mountain driving. Once you pass through the border post, continue driving until you see signs for the Senqu viewpoint. The viewpoint is situated near Tlokoeng, Lesotho, with coordinates approximately -29.3024 latitude and 28.8318 longitude.

• Public Transport

  To reach the Senqu viewpoint using public transport, you can take a local taxi or shuttle service from Underberg to the Sani Pass. This typically costs around R250 per person. Once you arrive at the Sani Pass, you may need to hire a local guide or join a tour group to reach the viewpoint, as public transport does not usually operate up the pass. Be prepared for additional costs for the guide or tour. Be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand.

• Hiking

  For the adventurous, hiking from the Sani Pass Hotel to the Senqu viewpoint is an option. The hike takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your fitness level. Start by following the dirt paths leading from the hotel towards the viewpoint. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and carry sufficient water. The trail can be steep and rocky, so exercise caution. Always inform someone about your hiking plans for safety.
