Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the main entrance of Table Mountain National Park, head east on Tafelberg Road. Continue on this road until you reach the intersection with Kloof Nek Road. Turn left onto Kloof Nek Road and continue for about 2.5 km until you reach the traffic circle. Take the second exit onto Campground Road and continue for approximately 3 km. At the intersection, turn right onto Observatory Road. The South African Astronomical Observatory will be on your right at 1 Observatory Rd, Observatory, Cape Town, 7925. There is no dedicated parking at the observatory, but you may find street parking in the surrounding area.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the South African Astronomical Observatory using public transport, start by taking the MyCiTi bus from the nearest MyCiTi bus stop within Table Mountain National Park. Board the bus heading towards the Civic Centre Station. At the Civic Centre, transfer to a bus going towards Observatory (look for the bus route that stops at Observatory). Disembark at the Observatory stop, which is near the intersection of Observatory Road. From there, it's a short walk (approximately 500 meters) along Observatory Road to the observatory located at 1 Observatory Rd, Observatory, Cape Town, 7925. Note that a single bus ride costs approximately ZAR 20.

• Taxi or rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct option, consider using a taxi or rideshare service like Uber. Simply request a ride to 1 Observatory Rd, Observatory, Cape Town, 7925. The driver will navigate directly to the observatory for you. The cost may vary based on your starting point within Table Mountain National Park but expect to pay around ZAR 100-200 for the ride depending on the distance and time of day.
