If you are driving from Folly Beach, start on Folly Beach Road and head towards James Island. Continue on Folly Beach Road until it merges into Maybank Highway (SC-700). Follow Maybank Highway for approximately 5 miles. Turn left onto Fort Johnson Road. Continue straight for about 1 mile, and you will reach Fort Johnson, located on your right. Parking is available on-site, and there are no fees associated with parking.

To reach Fort Johnson using public transportation, you can take the CARTA bus service. Start by walking to the nearest bus stop on Folly Beach. Board the CARTA Route 10 (Folly Road) bus towards downtown Charleston. Ride the bus until you reach the 'Maybank Hwy at Fort Johnson Rd' stop. From there, it is a short walk down Fort Johnson Road to the entrance of Fort Johnson. Be sure to check the CARTA schedule for bus times and any potential costs, which are typically around $2.00 for a one-way fare.
