If you are traveling by car, start by heading south on SD-244 from Keystone. Continue on SD-244 for about 3 miles until you reach the junction with US-16. Turn left onto US-16 and drive for approximately 4 miles. Then, take a right onto SD-87 and continue for another 2.5 miles. Look for a sign for Hippie Hole as you approach the parking area on your left. There is no specific parking lot, so you may need to park along the roadside. Be sure to keep an eye out for other vehicles.

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Rapid City to Keystone. Once you arrive in Keystone, you will need to arrange a taxi service or rideshare app to take you to the Hippie Hole area, as public transportation does not reach this spot directly. After reaching the drop-off point, be prepared for a short hike down to Hippie Hole. The trail can be a bit steep and rocky, so wear appropriate footwear and bring water. It’s a good idea to check the weather beforehand, as conditions can change rapidly in the Black Hills.

If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike in Keystone and take the same route as by car. Follow SD-244 south and then turn left onto US-16. Continue on US-16 until you reach SD-87.
