If you are driving from the town of Custer, head north on SD-87. Continue on SD-87 for about 7 miles until you reach MP 31. The Needles Eye Tunnel will be on your right side. Look for the parking area just before the tunnel to stop and enjoy the sights.

For those using public transportation, first take a bus from Custer to the nearest drop-off point on SD-87. You may need to check local services for schedules. Once you reach the nearest stop, you will have to walk approximately 2 miles north along SD-87 to reach the Needles Eye Tunnel, which will be on your right side. Be cautious as there may not be sidewalks.
