From downtown Rapid City, head to the Rapid City Transit Center located at 333 6th St. Board the Route 1 bus heading towards Custer. The bus will take you through scenic routes and provide an amazing view along the way. Stay on the bus for approximately 45 minutes until you reach the Custer stop. From there, you'll need to take a local taxi or rideshare service to reach Needles Scenic View, which is approximately 5 miles away along SD-87.

For an adventurous route, you can rent a bike from one of the many bike rental shops in downtown Rapid City. Start by heading south on 5th St towards St. Joseph St, then take a left onto St. Joseph St. Continue on this road until you reach Highway 16. Follow Highway 16 until you reach the junction with SD-87. Continue on SD-87 for about 10 miles, which will bring you directly to the Needles Scenic View. Be aware of the traffic and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the route.

Walking
Walking to Needles Scenic View is quite a long trek, so it's recommended only for the very adventurous. Starting from downtown Rapid City, head south on 5th St and follow it until you reach Highway 16. From there, continue on foot along Highway 16 until you reach Custer, which is about 20 miles away. Once in Custer, you can follow SD-87 for another 5 miles to reach Needles Scenic View. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry plenty of water, as this will be a long journey.
