Walking
Start at the Custer County Courthouse located at 420 Mount Rushmore Road. Head south on Mount Rushmore Road for about two blocks until you reach the intersection with South Dakota Highway 16A. Turn left onto Highway 16A. Continue walking along Highway 16A for approximately 2 miles. You will see signs for Custer State Park. The Visitor Center is located at 13400 US-16A, Custer, SD 57730, on the right side of the road. The walk may take about 40 minutes, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Biking
If you have access to a bicycle, start at the Custer City Park. Head east on the bike path that runs along the creek. This path will connect you to Highway 16A. Once on Highway 16A, turn left and bike approximately 2 miles to reach the Custer State Park Visitor Center at 13400 US-16A. The ride should take roughly 15-20 minutes, depending on your pace.
Public Transportation
Check if there are any local shuttle services operating from Custer to Custer State Park. If available, you can catch a shuttle from designated stops around town, such as near the Custer County Courthouse or local hotels. The shuttle will take you directly to the Visitor Center at 13400 US-16A. Ensure to verify the schedule and availability ahead of time, as services may vary.
