From the center of Custer, head north on 5th Street toward the intersection with Mount Rushmore Road (SD-16). Turn right onto Mount Rushmore Road and continue to follow it as it becomes SD-87. After about 3 miles, you will reach the Needles Highway (SD-87). Continue on this road for approximately 7 miles. You will see signs for Needles Eye Tunnel. Once you arrive at the tunnel, you can take some time to enjoy the stunning scenery and take photos.

Begin your journey at Custer State Park Visitor Center. Head east on Highway 16A (also known as Custer State Park Road). Follow the road until you reach the junction with SD-87. Turn left onto SD-87 and continue for about 7 miles. Look for signs directing you to Needles Eye Tunnel. The ride offers beautiful views, so make sure to take breaks to enjoy the scenery along the way.
