Start at the center of Custer, near the intersection of Main Street and Mount Rushmore Road (US-16). Head south on Mount Rushmore Road towards the US-16A intersection. Continue walking for about 0.5 miles until you reach the junction with US-16A. Turn left onto US-16A and walk approximately 1.5 miles. Look for signs indicating Sunday Gulch Trail. The trailhead will be on your right, just before reaching the address 13329 US-16A. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain may be uneven.
Biking
If you have access to a bike, start from the center of Custer at the intersection of Main Street and Mount Rushmore Road (US-16). Head south on Mount Rushmore Road, cycling for about 0.5 miles until you reach the US-16A intersection. Turn left onto US-16A and bike approximately 1.5 miles. Watch for signs marking the Sunday Gulch Trail entrance, which will be on your right just before the address 13329 US-16A. Ensure your bike is equipped for varied terrain as the trail area may have rough paths.
