From Mount Rushmore, walk to the nearest bus stop at the base of the monument. Board the Black Hills Pioneer bus (Route 1) heading towards Rapid City. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Disembark at the stop closest to the Rapid City Civic Center. From there, it is a short 5-minute walk to the Museum of Geology. Head east on E St Joseph St until you reach the O'Harra Building at 561 E St Joseph St.

If you prefer to walk, start from the Mount Rushmore National Memorial visitor center and head south on SD-244. Follow the trail signs directing you to the main road. After about 2 miles, turn left onto US-16 and continue walking for approximately 4 miles until you reach Rapid City. Once in Rapid City, turn right onto E St Joseph St and walk for another 0.5 miles to reach the Museum of Geology at 561 E St Joseph St.
