From the main entrance of Mount Rushmore National Memorial, start walking south on SD-244. Continue walking for about 1.5 miles until you reach the junction with US-16. Cross the road carefully to the other side. After crossing, continue walking along US-16 for approximately 3 miles. You will know you are close when you see signs for Rapid City and Sugar Park. Keep an eye out for the park entrance on your right. The total walking distance is roughly 4.5 miles, which should take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
Biking
If you have access to a bike, rent one at the visitor center in Mount Rushmore. Start on SD-244 heading south and follow the same route as walking, turning onto US-16 after 1.5 miles. Biking will be quicker; expect to reach Sugar Park in under an hour. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic rules. There may be bike racks available at Sugar Park for you to secure your bike.
Public Transport
As of now, there may not be a direct public transportation route from Mount Rushmore to Sugar Park. However, you can take a shuttle service or taxi from Mount Rushmore to Rapid City, and then use local public transit to get closer to Sugar Park. Check the local bus schedules ahead of time to ensure timely transfers. This option may take longer and requires careful planning.
