Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the South Dakota State Capitol located at 500 E Capitol Ave, Pierre, SD. Head south on E Capitol Ave towards S Dakota Ave. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with W Main St. Turn left onto W Main St and walk for about 0.2 miles until you reach the intersection with S Euclid Ave. Turn right onto S Euclid Ave and walk for about 0.3 miles. You will reach the Fort Pierre Bridge. Cross the bridge, enjoying the views of the Missouri River. Once you are on the other side, follow the signs towards Verendrye Dr. Continue straight on Verendrye Dr for about 1 mile. The Verendrye Monument will be on your right, a prominent historical landmark overlooking the river.

    Begin at the Pierre Chamber of Commerce located at 800 W Dakota Ave, Pierre, SD. Head south on W Dakota Ave towards S Washington Ave for about 0.4 miles. Turn left onto S Washington Ave and continue for 0.2 miles. Turn right onto W Main St and ride for about 0.5 miles until you reach S Euclid Ave. Turn left onto S Euclid Ave and bike for about 0.3 miles to reach the Fort Pierre Bridge. Cross the bridge, and once you are on the other side, follow the signs to Verendrye Dr. Continue straight on Verendrye Dr for about 1 mile and you will find the Verendrye Monument on your right.

    From the Pierre City Bus Station located at 300 S Pierre St, take Route 1 towards Fort Pierre. The bus will take you across the Fort Pierre Bridge. Get off at the stop closest to Verendrye Dr, which is near the intersection with S Dakota Ave. Walk east along Verendrye Dr for about 0.5 miles. The Verendrye Monument will be on your left.
