Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, Cáceres. Take the EX-100 road towards the west for approximately 40 kilometers. You will then merge onto the EX-208 road, following the signs for Torrejón el Rubio. After about 10 kilometers, you will reach Torrejón el Rubio. Continue following the signs for Parque Nacional de Monfragüe. The castle is located within the national park, and there is a small parking area near the entrance. Note that the parking may incur a small fee, typically around €2.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Cáceres to Torrejón el Rubio. The bus service is operated by various companies, and the journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Torrejón el Rubio, you will need to take a taxi to the Castillo de Monfragüe, as public transport options may be limited. The taxi ride from the town center to the castle takes approximately 15 minutes and may cost around €15.
Walking
If you prefer to enjoy the natural beauty, consider walking from the parking area in the national park to the Castillo de Monfragüe. The hike is about 3 km and takes approximately 45 minutes. The trail is well-marked and offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, especially during warmer months.
