Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major town, Foix. From Foix, take the D619 road towards Tarascon-sur-Ariège. After about 20 kilometers, turn onto the D8 road towards Le Port. Continue on the D8, and you will eventually see signs for Étang De Lers. Follow the signs for about 10 kilometers until you reach the parking area at the site. The entire drive from Foix will take approximately 45 minutes.
Public Transportation
For travelers using public transportation, take a train from Toulouse to Tarascon-sur-Ariège. The train ride takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upon arriving at Tarascon-sur-Ariège, you can take a local bus (Line 1) that heads towards Le Port. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may be limited, especially on weekends. After arriving in Le Port, it's about a 2-kilometer walk to Étang De Lers, which will take around 25-30 minutes on foot.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity and prefer a more adventurous route, you can hike to Étang De Lers from the village of Le Port. There are well-marked trails that lead directly to the lake. The hike is approximately 5 kilometers and will take roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking footwear and carry sufficient water and snacks.
