Getting There

  • Car

    From Dambulla, head northwest on the A9 road. Continue for approximately 25 kilometers until you reach the junction for Kalawewa-Avukana Road. Turn right onto this road and follow it for about 10 kilometers. You will see signs directing you to the Avukana Buddha Statue. The statue is located at the end of the Kalawewa-Avukana Road (2G67+84R, Avukana). There is no entry fee to visit the statue.

  • Public Transportation

    From Dambulla, take a bus heading towards Kalawewa. Buses leave regularly from the main bus stand in Dambulla. The fare is typically around 100 LKR. After approximately 30-40 minutes, you will reach the Kalawewa bus stop. From there, you can either walk about 2 kilometers to the Avukana Buddha Statue or hire a tuk-tuk for around 300 LKR. The tuk-tuk ride will take about 10 minutes.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    If you are already in Dambulla and prefer a more direct route, you can hire a tuk-tuk from your location. Negotiate the fare with the driver; it should cost around 1,500 to 2,000 LKR for a round trip, depending on your starting point. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes.
