Getting There

  • Bus

    Start your journey at the Ella Bus Station, which is located in the town center. Look for a bus heading to Thanamalwila. Buses to Thanamalwila run regularly, so you shouldn’t have to wait long. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Inform the bus conductor that you want to get off at Thanamalwila. Once you arrive at Thanamalwila, you will be near the entrance of Lunugamwehera National Park.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    Upon arriving in Thanamalwila, you can hire a tuk-tuk from the bus station to take you to Lunugamwehera National Park. The distance is about 10 kilometers, and the tuk-tuk ride will take approximately 20 minutes. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your ride.

  • Walking

    If you prefer to walk, from the bus station in Thanamalwila, head east on Idikole Road. Follow the road for about 2 kilometers until you see signs for Lunugamwehera National Park. The walk will take roughly 2 hours, so be prepared for the journey.
