Car
If you are driving from the Matale town center, take the A9 road heading towards Kandy. After approximately 15 km, turn left onto the Pitawala Road. Follow this road for about 10 km until you reach the entrance of Riverston Basecamp. The road can be steep and winding, so drive carefully. There is no entry fee to access the hiking trails around Riverston.
Public Transportation
To reach Riverston via public transport, start by taking a bus from Matale town to the town of Dambulla. From Dambulla, find a bus going towards the town of Rattota. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Pitawala junction. From there, you can either walk (approximately 2 km) or hire a tuk-tuk to take you the remaining distance to Riverston Basecamp. The bus fare should be around 100-150 LKR from Matale to Dambulla and about 50-100 LKR from Dambulla to Pitawala.
Tuk-Tuk
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a tuk-tuk from Matale town directly to Riverston Basecamp. The trip will take about 30-40 minutes and cost approximately 1,500-2,000 LKR depending on the negotiation with the driver. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.
